In a deeply emotional turn of events, Jane Hasler Grove, known for her role as
Bernie Winter on Coronation Street, has shared how her famous wife stepped
in to support her through a particularly challenging storyline. Since joining the ITV soap in 2019,
Jane has won hearts with her portrayal of Bernie, a character who has faced a turbulent journey, including her onscreen son Paul’s battle with MND and his recent death.
The heartbreaking storyline culminated with Paul’s passing, which was portrayed in a poignant episode that left fans and cast alike deeply moved. Offscreen, Jane’s wife, Isa Middleton, a well-known actress with roles in Emmerdale and EastEnders, provided crucial support during this difficult time. The couple, who have been together for over 28 years and married in 2015, faced the emotional strain together.
Jane revealed to the Liverpool Echo that she struggled with the intense emotions the script evoked. She recounted how she found it almost impossible to read the script for Paul’s death episode at home. The emotional weight of the storyline made it difficult for her to even have the script in her living space.
During this challenging period, Isa took Jane away to a shepherd’s hut in Northumbria, where they spent time together in the sunshine with a bottle of wine, offering Jane the respite she needed. This supportive gesture was a lifeline for Jane, helping her cope with the emotional toll of filming such a heart-wrenching episode.
Isa Middleton herself has a notable acting career, having appeared in Emmerdale, EastEnders, and even in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Her experience and understanding were invaluable as Jane navigated this particularly tough storyline.
