She first made an appearance in 1986 and has worked for the show on and off ever since – but could her time as Jenny finally be coming to an end?

On a late night Instagram Live story, Sally revealed that she’d quit the country, taking multiple holidays in Cyprus over a period of just a few weeks, saying her plan for now is to just “do nowt”. The 53-year-old added that she might “at some point get a job”, after confessing she hadn’t filmed on the cobbles in “ages”.

Rumours swept the internet that she was leaving the soap for good – but a rep for Coronation Street reportedly confirmed that she has a safe future on the show. Express.co.uk has approached a representative for further comment.

Sally had begun by telling fans that she was “particularly quiet” in the work department, and joking that she had “a million years off”. As fans listened, glued to their seats in shock, she explained: “I’ve got like a million years off, so I chose to go on an aeroplane. I’ve been to Cyprus twice in the past five weeks and we landed last night and we came back.”

She added that she planned to make a third getaway just a few days later, revealing that she’d be making a dramatic departure on Saturday. “We’re going to go off on the boat, and then I’m going to just chill… and do nowt, pretty much!” she exclaimed.

Then she dropped the bombshell: “Then I’m going to go back to Cyprus… and at some point I might get a job and someone might employ me, potentially.”

However, she wouldn’t be drawn on whether she’s left the show altogether, after a fan quizzed her directly.

“Have you left the street? Hmm. Hang on, next question. You’re not going to be seeing Jenny for quite a long while, so that’s that,” she concluded.

The ambiguous sounding reply had fans worried instantly.

Sally first joined the cobbles in the 1980s, enjoying a five year stint on the show before leaving in 1991.

Sally first joined the cobbles in the 1980s, enjoying a five year stint on the show before leaving in 1991.

She then returned for a brief period in 1993, followed by a third stint – her longest yet – in 2015.

Many actors have spoken publicly about the insecurity of their profession, explaining that it can be tough to get reliable regular work – but Jenny has been a firm favourite on the soap for almost a decade.

In recent times, storylines surrounding her relationship with step-daughter Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), as well as her love-life struggles, have been a huge hit – but only time will tell when she might next be seen on the cobbles.
