After months of delays and waiting, the latest news about the Netflix drama confirms that Virgin River season 6 has begun filming. The news was broken by Netflix via a press release in April 2024 that confirmed cameras were rolling on the next set of episodes. Though a release date remains elusive, the fact that production is underway is a welcome sign for fans who have waited through strike-related delays. One thing that was confirmed about the next season is that it will take place a few months after the shocking events of the season 5 holiday episodes.

Thankfully for fans of Netflix’s romance series, Virgin River season 6 is officially confirmed and has been for some time. Even before the streamer released a single episode of season 5, Virgin River season 6 was given the green light and has been confirmed to feature 12 episodes. It is unclear if the upcoming season will be split into two parts like season 5, but those details will likely become more clear in the future.

The production of Virgin River, which is currently underway, was temporarily delayed due to the WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes in Hollywood, but the resolution of those two issues means the show is back on track. No release date has been provided yet for the newest season, but it will likely come in 2024 since the series has produced a season per year since premiering in 2019.

The WGA strike was resolved on September 27th, 2023, and the SAG/AFTRA strike was resolved on November 9th, 2023.

On top of that, their plan to renovate Lily’s farm will offer a distraction, but it could also cause a rift.

Virgin River season 5 concluded with the release of two Christmas episodes, and they were anything but throwaway holiday stories. Throughout season 5, Mel makes a series of discoveries about her parentage, and in the final episode of the season, she finally meets the man who is her biological father. The episode concludes with Mel’s long-lost dad coming clean that he has a secret he needs to tell her, but fans will have to wait until Virgin River season 6 to finally learn the truth.
