*Home and Away* fans are left wondering if Irene Roberts has left Summer Bay
for good as her emotional storyline comes to a head. This week on UK screens,
Irene’s exit scenes air as she leaves Summer Bay to seek professional help.
After struggling with her sobriety, Irene decides to face her demons head-on, following a dramatic relapse triggered by the Bronny Langford storyline.
Irene, a long-time favorite, hit rock bottom after realizing she had been conned by Bronny. Despite initial warnings from her friends, Irene began drinking heavily, both socially and alone. Things took a turn for the worse when she suffered a nasty fall down the stairs while intoxicated, landing her in the hospital.
Now, determined to make things right, Irene apologizes to her close friends—Marilyn Chambers, Leah Patterson, and John Palmer—who have all been worried about her. John, in particular, has been vocal about her alcohol consumption and is relieved when Irene finally admits she needs help. Wasting no time, Irene insists on heading to rehab immediately, with John agreeing to take her, happy to see her taking a positive step.
These scenes mark the temporary exit of Irene from *Home and Away*, with actress Lynne McGranger taking a break from the show to perform in a touring theater production, *The Grandparents Club*. While Lynne’s absence will last a few months, she has reassured fans that this isn’t a permanent goodbye. Filming several months in advance, UK and Australian viewers won’t see Irene’s return until 2025.
In Irene’s absence, her lodgers, Harper and Dana, will continue to reside in her home, and no doubt face their own share of drama along the way.
