Earlier this year, Coronation Street enthusiasts were left aghast when young
Lauren Bolton (portrayed by Cait Fitton) disappeared without a trace from the street.
Speculation was rife that she had met a grim fate after police discovered blood and signs of
an altercation in her apartment, not knowing Joel Deering (played by Calum Lill) had subjected her to a vicious assault.
Yet, in a recent twist, Dee-Dee Bailey (acted by Channique Sterling-Brown) and Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) managed to locate her, only to be stunned to learn she was expecting.
With the revelation on ITV that Joel is the baby’s father, trying desperately to prevent her from spilling the beans to Dee-Dee, some viewers are casting doubt on her story. One viewer speculated: “And Lauren’s bound to give birth at Christmas. It’ll be Max’s baby, not Joel’s.”
Another chimed in with: “Plot twist: Max is the father of Lauren’s baby and it isn’t Joel’s at all” while a third added: “Lauren is a female Max. It’d be hilarious if this kid isn’t Joel’s.”, reports the Express.
Doubts continue as one fan expressed: “I’m not sure if I’m convinced that Joel is Lauren’s baby daddy. Who else has she been with,” (sic).
Nonetheless, there’s a camp of fans who reckon Max will rise to the occasion and embrace the child as his own.
A fan predicted: “I can see a similar David/Kylie situation developing with Max taking on Lauren and being a stepdad to the baby in the future.”
Recent episodes have shown Lauren spending time with her former boyfriend Max Turner (Paddy Bever), but she remains tight-lipped about the assault, wrongly accusing Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper).

In a fit of anger, she leaves his house and later insists that Joel help her leave the country for a new beginning. Despite his repeated claims of insufficient funds and his advice to stay put for now, she agrees.
Unbeknownst to Lauren, Joel has a more sinister scheme underway as he is seen researching drugs that could trigger early labour.
Things appear to be taking a turn for the worse for the teenager, as upcoming spoilers for the ITV soap reveal that Lauren is robbed at the precinct.
While Max is there to offer support, Joel persists with his wicked plan to eliminate her once and for all. Later, Lauren is seen doubled over in severe pain, clutching her stomach.
When Max visits her flat to see how she’s doing, a collapsed Lauren cries out that something isn’t right. Fearing she’s losing her baby, has Joel achieved his objective?
