It’s been revealed that Helen Worth’s exit from the show after 50 years has featured its own drama,

following the exit of co-star Sean Wilson. It was only confirmed weeks ago that his character Martin Platt, Gail’s ex, was due to return for her departure plot.

Now it’s been revealed that actor Sean is “stepping down for personal reasons”, and his scenes have apparently been scrapped. The original storyline will now not air it’s thought, leaving fans fearing the rewrite could see Gail be killed off.

Viewers have been left gutted by the news of Sean no longer making a comeback after years away, but how was Gail set to leave the show after so long? According to reports before Corrie officially announced Sean was back on set a few weeks ago, Martin would return before Gail’s departure.

It was claimed the pair would possibly reconcile, heading off into the sunset together. It was meant to be a happy ending for Gail after years of drama, and a happy exit for actress Helen. The reports at the time suggested after years apart, Gail and Martin would rekindle their romance, leading to her exiting the cobbles for good.

That was the planned exit, but where does Martin’s axed return leave her and the storyline now? Corrie has yet to confirm what the changes are or what Martin’s axed scenes will mean for Gail and her departure.

It’s thought the storyline will be or has been rewritten, and any scenes filmed by actor Sean will not air. It means anything can happen for Gail now, despite them already starting to film her goodbye.

Viewers are pleading with bosses not to kill her off, believing there is a chance it might happen after the drama on set. One fan wrote: “Omg… sounds like maybe Helen has gone to the bosses and said that she doesn’t want to leave this way anymore and now this scares me she’s decided she wants Gail to be killed off instead. I’m actually scared.”
