Home and Away‘s Tane Parata is left disappointed by a new outburst from
Perri Hayes on UK screens next week. Tane goes all-out to celebrate when
he finds out that it’s Perri’s 18th聽birthday, but his efforts backfire badly.
The trouble starts when Tane fears that Perri is starting to push the boundaries with their new living and working arrangements.
Tane is annoyed when Perri arrives home late with no real explanation. Things get worse when Perri turns up late to his next shift at the gym and fails to recognise the importance of being punctual.
The final straw comes when Tane finds out that Perri was late because he was trying to order himself a beer upstairs at Salt.
Tane prepares to give Perri a piece of his mind, but Mackenzie Booth steps in and explains that the teenager was trying to celebrate his 18th聽birthday.
Realising that he needs to go easy on Perri, Tane wonders why he hadn’t mentioned his special day.
Mackenzie and her boyfriend Levi Fowler waste no time before surprising Perri with an expensive birthday present.
Perri’s awkward reaction to the gesture isn’t what Mackenzie and Levi had expected. The teen explains that, while he’s grateful for the couple’s generosity, he still sees them as strangers.
Tane spots an opportunity to help Perri feel at home, as well as encouraging him to embrace his M膩ori heritage.
Tane gets his family together to hold a hangi to celebrate Perri’s special day. However, it quickly becomes clear that Tane is more excited about the occasion than Perri is.
Feeling like he doesn’t deserve such a fuss, Perri grows increasingly uncomfortable over everyone’s kind efforts.
When Tane suggests getting Perri a New Zealand passport so he can visit his homeland, Perri lashes out and accuses his mentor of treating him like a “cultural project”. He storms off, much to everyone’s shock.
Later, Perri seeks out Tane at home and apologises for causing a scene. Can Tane make amends with his young prot茅g茅?
