is set for romance with Carla Connor after their recent heart-to-heart on the ITV soap

Vicky Myers has had her say on a possible new romance for her character DS Swain.

ITV soap fans were left convinced Swain was going to embark on a romance with Carla Connor, after they bonded in recent scenes. Amid a sad death twist, Lisa Swain was seen opening up about her past and her daughter in a recent episode with Carla supporting her.

Carla talked of her own losses in life and advised Lisa, who finally opened up and revealed she’d sadly lost her wife Becky just over two years ago. Becky, also working with the police, died in the line of duty.

Lisa told Carla how her daughter was struggling, with their relationship fractured. Carla offered to help her, offering her daughter Betsy some work experience at the factory, with the teen interested in fashion.

Amid Carla and Lisa growing closer, fans were suspecting the pair would end up embarking on a romance. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Swain actress Vicky has now reacted to this theory, revealing what she hopes will happen for the pair.

She downplayed a romance for them, and instead shared her thoughts on Carla and Swain becoming close friends. She told us: “I think in this moment she’s so busy and she’s trying to be a single parent, in a high-powered profession which is very stressful.

“There’s a lot going on, so what would be really nice would be if they have a relationship as in a friendship. She doesn’t trust many people, she doesn’t have much cause to and she doesn’t let her guard down.

“So with Carla she sees another female who’s strong, opinionated but also she has got a heart. Carla drinks red wine too, I think this is perhaps someone she can let in.

“She’s very protective of her daughter and she doesn’t like to bring anyone into that family dynamic because she’s having problems at home. But I think that would be nice for them to be friends or for her to have a friend.”
