A star from E4’s soap Hollyoaks has landed a significant role in the upcoming
season of Netflix’s Virgin River. Callum Kerr, known for his role as George Kiss
on Hollyoaks, has joined the cast for the sixth season of the beloved romantic drama.
Virgin River, based on Robyn Carr’s popular book series, follows nurse practitioner Melinda Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) as she relocates from Los Angeles to a small Californian town in the wake of personal tragedy.
In the upcoming season, viewers will see flashbacks to Mel’s father’s life in the 1970s, a character that Kerr will portray. This storyline comes after Mel’s emotional reunion with her biological father, Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson), in the Christmas special of season five.
Fans can look forward to scenes that explore Mel’s late mother, Sarah (Jessica Rothe), and her father, deepening the series’ narrative. Additionally, Netflix is reportedly considering a spin-off prequel focusing on Sarah and Everett’s backstory.
The new season promises a blend of romance and drama, with a synopsis teasing “fresh twists and turns, escalating love triangles, and delightful wedding drama,” all set against the backdrop of Mel and Jack’s wedding preparations. It will also uncover secrets from Mel’s father’s past, transporting viewers back to the enchanting 1970s.
Kerr, who has also appeared in Monarch and Flowers in the Attic: The Origin, shared his excitement with his 524,000 Instagram followers, stating, “I’ve been keeping this under wraps for a while. I’m thrilled to announce I’ll be joining the Virgin River universe exclusively on Netflix.”
