Coronation Street’s Luca Toolan made his acting debut in late 2023,
portraying the character of Mason Radcliffe, a school bully however,
Luca isn’t the only well-known member of the Toolan family.His father, Mike Toolan,
is a popular radio DJ who currently hosts an afternoon show on Hits Radio, working alongside celebrities such as Brooke Vincent from Coronation Street and Gemma Atkinson from Hollyoaks.
As viewers of Corrie will know, Mason has been at the forefront of a distressing bullying storyline, relentlessly targeting Liam Connor Jnr since his first appearance on the show last year. The storyline, which saw Mason brandishing a knife at a terrified Liam, recently culminated in Mason being sent to a Young Offenders centre.
In recent episodes, Dylan, another young character on the soap, has been living in fear after learning that Mason has been released. Earlier this year, Dylan bravely testified against Mason in court.
His testimony helped secure justice, with Mason facing punishment for threatening Liam with a knife. However, in upcoming episodes, Maria, Liam’s mother, informs Dylan that Mason has been released after just three months, reports OK!.

Away from the cobbles of Corrie, actor behind rogue character Mason, Luca Toolan, shares his off-screen life with his dad who’s no stranger to fame himself. Despite playing a well-known figure on Coronation Street, most fans were oblivious to Luca’s family ties until a wave of social media discussions highlighting them.
In the wake of a gripping courthouse episode starring Mason, Luca’s father Mike – a familiar face on Hits Radio’s drivetime programme – posted an image of Luca in character awaiting his sentence on Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter), commenting: “Guilty! I knew it!”
He went on to praise the show saying: “What an episode @coronationstreet Bloody amazing acting all round [clapping emojis]. And Liam’s face in the 2nd pic,” to which Luca retorted: “Thanks Dad.”
Yet, Luca’s fellow actor Simon Gregson, better known as Steve McDonald on screen, quipped: “I blame the parents here looks wrongun.”
Luca’s stardom through association became evident when he featured on This Morning earlier this February. The shows host Rochelle Humes brought his family link to the forefront, exclaiming: “I know your dad! Sorry, I didn’t know it was that Mike! When we were in [The Saturdays] we used to do radio tours and we always used to see your dad. Sorry, that took me by surprise.”
Rochelle and countless fans were taken aback upon discovering the identity of Luca Toolan’s well-known father, as social media has been abuzz with chatter about the connection. One user commented: “Luca Toolan who plays Mason on Corrie seems a nice lad. So it shows he’s playing him well. I can’t stand Mason but that’s the point though isn’t it. And he has a famous dad northerners will know him DJ Mike Toolan key 103 used to do think now it’s called hits radio north west.”
Another fan, raising an eyebrow, asked: “Would Luca Toolan have gotten the Corrie gig if his dad wasn’t famous?” Meanwhile, someone else remarked: “He’s Mike Toolan’s son, the radio DJ.. You may not have heard of him, but he looks like his dad..”
Then, spotting the family resemblance, another observant fan stated: “I knew it!! I said to my wife sure that’s Mike Toolan’s son . Well done all great to see!”
