Coronation Street’s Daniel Brocklebank, who portrays Billy Mayhew,

has received the same message from friends, fans and followers as he updated them

on his life off-screen following a tear-jerking week in his character’s storyline.

The actor has recently been involved in a series of distressing scenes in the ITV soap. As viewers of the long-standing show are aware, Billy devastatingly missed the opportunity to bid farewell to his husband Paul Foreman, who tragically passed away.

Paul, a former builder played by Peter Ash, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a currently incurable condition, in April 2023. He and his family then witnessed his health decline dramatically, beginning with losing the use of his limbs and eventually his ability to speak.

However, in recent episodes, Paul’s health deteriorated rapidly and he was rushed to hospital struggling to breathe. Later, after doctors informed his family that there was nothing more they could do but make him comfortable, Paul drew his last breath.

In a heart-wrenching twist, a series of events, starting with Billy searching for his lost phone, delayed his arrival at the hospital, preventing him from saying goodbye. Although, he believed he had expressed his feelings to Paul over the phone, in reality, Paul had already tragically passed away, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Corrie devotees have watched Billy grapple with his conscience for not being by Paul’s bedside when he died, even rebuking Paul’s mother, Bernie Winter, who’s occupied with organising Paul’s farewell.

Amidst the on-screen sorrow, Daniel Brocklebank, who has inhabited the role of Billy for nearly ten years, is jetting off to warmer territories for some much-needed R&R after a taxing period on the drama.

Taking to Instagram, the actor posted a selfie with the caption: “It appears that I’ve awoken in the Caribbean!!! Bring on the relax, sunshine and much needed sleep!” Daniel’s beau, Jordan Coulthard, chimed in with a comment, “You deserve this so much babe. Have the best time!” Ex-screen buddy Peter Ash added, “Looks amazing! Enjoy your well-deserved rest, buddy!”

The well-wishes didn’t stop there; one follower joined in, saying: “Enjoy @danielbrocklebank well deserved.”

Another fan dropped a note: “Enjoy your much deserved R&R!”, someone else expressed: “Well deserved! Enjoy your rest and relaxation!” A fourth left a message: “Enjoy your well deserved break Daniel.”

And another fan contributed: “Much Deserved Daniel! Have a wonderful time.”
