Coronation Street fans have said it’s only ‘going to get worse’ as they were left in tears
over some of the show’s latest scenes. Viewers of the ITV soap have made it clear that
they’re not prepared for Paul Foreman’s impending exit after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
The much-loved character was told of the life-shortening disease, in which messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles, in April 2023. There currently is no cure.
Viewers have since been watching the storyline unfold, often with tears in their eyes, as Paul’s condition deteriorates with his speech now limited leaving him reliant on his voice banking machine, and him now unable to move and use his arms and legs as he once did.
In an emotional upcoming episode, Billy Mayhew will be seen having planned a final day out for his husband before the chances of him being able to leave their flat taken away from him due to no longer safely being able to use the stairlift.
Ahead of the episode dedicated to Paul and Billy, played by Peter Ash and Daniel Brocklebank, Corrie fans were left in tears again as Paul gave an emotional speech to his family, calling for them to come together before he is no longer here and how much he needed them in his final days, and not at each other’s throats.
Billy called a family meeting after Kit Green’s interference in his long-lost family’s lives drove a wedge between Paul and his sister Gemma and their mum, Bernie. At the meeting, Paul played a pre-recorded message telling his loved ones that he is dying and he can’t bear anymore fighting in his family, pointing out he needs his mum more than ever amid his devastating diagnosis which has seen his body deteriorate in recent months.

The family were left emotional over Paul’s message and later they had an outing together at the Rovers. During the meeting, Gemma, who is being evicted from her home with Chesney, was left deflated that there were no properties currently available to rent in her price range.
Following the scenes, fans flocked to social media to comment and are somewhat fearing what is to come for Paul. @tinassweetfurbabies said: “Omg this was hearbreaking and it’s going to get worse.” @catclarke commented: “Such a heartbreaking storyline, not sure I can watch the scenes with Paul as he deteriorates. Fantastic acting though.”
