Joel Deering has been up to no good in Weatherfield, first attacking Lauren Bolton
then drugging her so she would lose her unborn baby ā which thankfully survived.
Two fan-favourite characters from Coronation Street are gearing up to take down Joel Deering,
as the soap has hinted. Joel (played by Calum Lill), who initially seemed like a good guy, has shown his true colours in recent episodes.
It was recently revealed that he was behind the disappearance of Lauren Bolton (portrayed by Cait Fitton).
Joel cunningly wormed his way into Lauren’s life by helping her with bills, eventually manipulating her into a sexual relationship. After a fiery row where Lauren mentioned his fiancee Dee-Dee Bailey’s (Channique Sterling-Brown) name, he violently assaulted her and left her for dead.
On top of this, he is the father of her newborn baby and recently tried to kill her by drugging her in a desperate attempt to end the baby’s life. However, his evil plan backfired when she went into labour prematurely and the baby survived.
Meanwhile, Joel has also found himself being blackmailed by newcomer Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin), the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). Betsy has been blackmailing Joel for several weeks after noticing his unsettling behaviour towards her friend Sabrina. However, last week, Joel lost his cool and dragged Betsy into the ginnel before threatening her.
In Friday’s episode (August 16), Betsy confided in her mum Lisa about Joel’s actions – leading to the police officer bringing Joel in for questioning. In a classic Joel move, he spun a web of lies that Lisa seemed to buy into. However, later on, viewers saw a stern-faced Lisa typing Joel’s name into her police computer database.
She stumbled upon Joel’s name, right next to Lauren Bolton’s. The revelation seemed to stun Lisa as she appears to connect the dots. But it appears Swain isn’t the only one onto Joel at the moment. His fiancĆ©e Dee-Dee grew increasingly suspicious in the latest episode.
Dee-Dee discovered that Joel had been dishonest about a piece of jewellery he claimed to have bought for Lauren some time ago. Joel insisted he’d purchased a charm bracelet for his baby daughter, but viewers know this wasn’t the case.
Moreover, Dee-Dee found out that Joel still owned his old flat, despite telling her he’d put it up for sale. She then visited Joel’s old flat, where unbeknownst to her, Lauren has been staying. While rummaging through Joel’s flat, which he’d told her was up for sale, Dee-Dee was heartbroken to find nail varnish, leading her to suspect an affair.
