Former *Home and Away* star Bonnie Sveen has opened up about her emotional
departure from the show, revealing the lasting impact her time in Summer Bay
has had on her. Sveen, who portrayed the beloved character Ricky Sharpe,
joined the cast in 2013 and left in 2016 after landing a role in the TV drama *The Secret Daughter*. In a recent interview with *TV Week*, she confessed that she still gets emotional when reminiscing about her experience on the soap, saying, “It was just so joyous. I feel a bit sad because you can’t go back.”
Sveen admitted to crying about it to her agent last year after reconnecting with her former castmates. “I’ll never stop loving everybody that I got to work with,” she added, reflecting on the strong bonds she formed during her time on the show.
Ricky’s journey in Summer Bay was filled with gripping storylines, including her tumultuous relationship with Daryl “Brax” Braxton. After Brax was imprisoned for a murder he didn’t commit, Ricky visited him to reveal she was pregnant with his child. However, Brax ended their relationship before she could break the news. Ricky later tragically suffered a miscarriage following a bomb explosion at the hospital.
Sveen also fondly recalled working alongside co-star Steve Peacocke, who played Brax, saying she felt “super lucky” to be a part of the River Boys storyline. “Ricky wasn’t a damsel in distress; she was more of a mother figure in some ways,” she reflected. Sveen shared how becoming a mother herself has added more depth to her acting.
In 2016, Ricky married Nate Cooper, but their relationship ended shortly after. Despite his heartbreak, Nate encouraged Brax to fight for Ricky, and in a final twist, she chose to leave Summer Bay to start a new life with Brax, closing her chapter on the show.
