Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) is hiding a huge secret in Coronation Street

which is set to have huge ramifications. It was clear that Betsy had something

on her mind in tonight’s episode, and it didn’t take her long to open up to best friend

Sabrina Adetiba (Luana Santos) about what was getting her down.

Throughout the episode, it became clear that Betsy was somehow involved in Joel Deering’s (Calum Lill) drugging of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).

Sabrina was quick to offer advice, pointing out that Betsy could end up going to prison for her actions, and encouraging her to tell her mum.

Later, when Betsy met DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) for lunch, she attempted to do just that – though things didn’t quite go to plan.

When Betsy announced that she had something serious to tell her, Lisa jumped to conclusions and wondered aloud if she was pregnant, which Betsy took instant offence to.

Before she could correct her, Max Turner (Paddy Bever) barged into the conversation demanding that Lisa do something about Joel, before revealing that baby Frankie’s health had taken a turn for the worse.

Viewers will know that, after grooming and attacking Lauren, Joel drugged her to induce an early labour after learning that she was pregnant with his child.

At the news, Betsy appeared shaken, and swiftly left the table.

Later, she met with Sabrina once again, who asked Betsy if she knew what Joel had planned to do with the pills.

Betsy insisted she didn’t, but refused to entertain the idea of opening up to Lisa about the situation and swore Sabrina to secrecy.

Sabrina was quick to point out that the police would be able to trace the drugs back to her, or Joel could bring up her name in questioning, but Betsy still didn’t budge, even when Sabrina suggested that she could go down for murder.

Panicked, Betsy headed to the hospital to see Frankie herself, where she was confronted by Lauren, who was desperate to know who she was.

What has Betsy got herself into, and what does she know about Joel drugging Lauren?

In upcoming scenes, she will confide in Carla Connor (Alison King) about the situation. Will she come clean?
